About You Mean More

Founded in 2011, You Mean More is UC Berkeley’s first mental health awareness and suicide prevention group. The club aims to offer a safe space through which members can participate in increasing awareness, support, and prevention resources for the prevalent issues of mental health on campus. You Mean More is the host of the annual UC Berkeley Suicide Prevention Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as part of their Campus Walks program.

As a club You Mean More is structured to provide opportunities for every member to contribute to our collective efforts to spread awareness around campus and plan the walk that is held each spring. The club also aims to foster a community of UC Berkeley students who are passionate about fighting the negative stigma surrounding issues of suicide and mental health, providing socials and bonding activities for members.

There are three main committees: Admin, Internal, and Outreach. Each committee is headed by one of the three executives, and each committee is assigned several coordinators who are in charge of overseeing specific tasks related to that sector. General members lend their assistance in brainstorming ideas and helping execute the work alongside all of the coordinators. Every member is encouraged to apply for a committee of their interest through which he or she will be working with throughout the year to prepare for on-campus events and the actual walk.

  • Admin: Focus on the logistics of planning the walk including the walk route, performances, resource fair, and decorations.
  • Internal: Focus on planning meetings, building the club community, and managing general club logistics, finances, and activities.
  • Outreach: Focus on raising awareness about mental health issues on campus through events and displays, as well as publicity for the Suicide Prevention Walk. Member and registrant recruitment are also under this committee.

If you are interested in mental health issues and want to get involved in organizing the walk or mental health monologues, we encourage you to come by and learn about the many opportunities we offer! For more information on how to join, click here.
